Guwahati airport to swap land with SOS village

New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will swap land from the SOS village in Guwahati for upgrading the international airport there.

The decision to swap the SOS village land - measuring 2,397 square metres - with an equivalent plot of airport land was taken at a meeting of the union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here Wednesday.

"This will facilitate construction of hangars at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI), Guwahati. The secretary general, SOS village, has already given his consent in writing for the swapping of the village land with AAI land," an official release said.

The construction of the hangars on the swapped land will facilitate the development of the LGBI airport, the release said.

This will also help in greater social inclusion of the northeastern region, it added.
