NHRC notice to Haryana over lack of wheelchairs at hospital


New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS): The NHRC has issued notice to the Haryana government after a woman gave birth at the entrance of a hospital as she could not be taken inside due to non-availability of a wheelchair.

Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notice to the state chief secretary and called for a report within four weeks.

According to the NHRC, the incident occurred in the general hospital in Bahadurgarh and raises a serious issue of violation of human rights of the mother and the newborn.

"Being a government hospital, it should have enough wheelchairs to take patients inside," the NHRC said in a statement.
