Three killed, scores injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza


Gaza, Aug 25 (IANS): Three Palestinians were killed and scores injured Monday in a wave of Israeli attacks in different areas of the Gaza Strip.

Three Palestinians, including a woman, were killed and several others injured in a series of Israeli raids on Gaza, MENA news agency quoted Gaza's health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qedra as saying.

In addition, two mosques and a number of houses were destroyed during these attacks.

The Israeli forces destroyed a mosque in Zeitoun district in southern Gaza and damaged several surrounding houses, according to local sources.

Also, seven people were injured in the shelling of a mosque in northern Gaza Strip.

As many as 12 Palestinians were injured in the shelling of a house in Falloujah district in northern part of the coastal enclave. The house was totally destroyed.

Israeli air strikes Sunday destroyed a six-storey apartment building and a business mall in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.

A senior Hamas leader was killed in a fourth targeted strike on Gaza's top Hamas officials over the past week.

Israel launched a ground and air offensive on the Gaza Strip July 8 dubbed Operation Protective Edge to rein in Gaza militants and stop rockets being fired into Israel. At least 2,108 Palestinians and 68 Israelis were killed and more than 10,000 wounded so far.
