Dry weather to continue in Himachal


Shimla, Aug 24 (IANS): It has almost been a week with no major rainfall reported in Himachal Pradesh and similar conditions would continue this week, a weather official said here Sunday.

Precipitation occurred at a few places since Saturday, but there was no appreciable change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, the official told IANS.

The weather bureau said the towns of Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Palampur, Dalhousie and Manali recorded no rain.

However, picturesque tourist resort Dharamsala received 6 mm of rain, while Jogindernagar town in Mandi district got four mm of rainfall.

"The monsoon, which became subdued in the region on Aug 17, will remain dormant till the end of this month," the official added.

The state capital recorded a maximum of 25.2 degrees Celsius, while it was 27.8 degrees in Dharamsala, 24.4 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnaur district and 25.6 degrees in Manali.

A government spokesperson said the water levels in the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and their tributaries, which were in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts, had receded.
