Islamabad, Aug 24 (IANS): The far-right political group Jamaat-e-Islami Sunday said the resignations submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party members should not be accepted, otherwise the current political crisis in the country will worsen, media report said.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Jamaat chief Sirajul Haq, a member of the provincial assembly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said there was still room for talks, Dawn online reported.

He said as the PTI and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) claim to follow law, constitution and democracy, there was a need to focus on ground realities to find a peaceful way to end the crisis.

Haq said he was moved by the fact that despite the large crowds gathered in the Red Zone, there was no damage to property and human life.

Haq, however, criticised the ongoing crisis, saying the protests had led to an economic crisis and disrupted routine life.

PTI and PAT have staged sit-ins in Islamabad's Red Zone area since Aug 14, demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation. They claim that last year's general elections were rigged.

However, the government has proposed to form a judicial commission comprising of SC judges to probe the rigging allegations.

Despite a third round of talks between the PTI and the government, a deadlock persists as PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi proposed that the prime minister should resign for a period of 30 days for an independent probe to be held into the alleged rigging.

PTI has 34 members in the 342-seat National Assembly.
