Six injured as car rams into cycle rickshaws in Delhi


New Delhi, Aug 23 (IANS): Six people were injured when a speeding car rammed into cycle rickshaws they were sleeping on in Delhi, police said Saturday.

Six people, most of them rickshaw pullers, were sleeping on their vehicles parked by the road-side in north Delhi's Sarai Rohilla area, when a car rammed into them and toppled over after hitting the pavement around 1 a.m. Saturday.

A witness said the car, travelling at 100 kmph, skidded on road for over 30 meters after being toppled.

The injured, four identified as Feroz, 72, Naseer Ahmed, 62, Amin Ullah, 49 and Tarun Sharma, 35, were taken to Bara Hindu Rao hospital and are out danger, police said.

The three people who were in the car, ran away leaving the vehicle on the spot.

Police said driver Mohammad Mohsin, 23, along with two other friends were in an inebriated state as an alcohol bottle and glasses were found inside the car.

No arrests have been made so far. This is the third such incident in the capital in a week.
