Three Gurgaon policemen sent to police lines


Gurgaon, Aug 22 (IANS): Thee policemen, including a sub-inspector, were Friday sent to police lines for allegedly extorting money from motorists, police said.

Sub-inspector Naresh Kumar, head constable Praveen Kumar and constable Krishan Kumar were sent to police lines for taking money from truck and bus drivers.

"The action was taken after Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor noticed some suspicious activity on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway where the trio were checking vehicles near Sidhrawali," deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Vinod Kaushik told IANS.

IGP Kapoor is posted at Rewari. He was going to his office when he noticed the three of them checking vehicles near Sidhrawali, some 33 km from Gurgaon. Some truck drivers told him about the alleged extortion after which he informed Gurgaon police.

"The three have been sent to police lines and an inquiry has been ordered. Assistant Commissioner of Police (highway traffic) Sumer Singh Yadav will conduct the inquiry," Kaushik said.

The accused policemen said they were on duty and fining vehicles for violating traffic rules.

"We have called some truck drivers from Jaipur to record their statements. Further action will be taken on the basis of their statements," he added.
