Former Irish PM Albert Reynolds dead


Dublin, Aug 21 (IANS): Former Irish prime minister Albert Reynolds, who played an important part in the Northern Ireland peace process, died Thursday after a long illness.

He was 81 and leaves behind his wife Kathleen, two sons and five daughters, Xinhua reported.

His family said last year that he had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Reynolds served as prime minister from February 1992 to December 1994. As prime minister, one of Reynolds' main achievements was the advancement of the Northern Ireland peace process.
