Karkala, Sep 4: In a shocking and heart-rending incident, a Brahmin family of four ended their life on Monday September 4 morning by jumping into a pond at Gundchi near Kabbinale here.

Chandrashekhar (37), his wife Vanajakshi (32), children Ananya (5) and Amogh (11-month-old) of Gundchi ended their life by jumping into a nearby pond.  They said to have jumped into the pond in the small hours of Monday.

Chandrashekhar was an agriculturist by profession.  On Sunday night he called his brother Shantakumar around 11 and asked him come to his house on Monday morning to feed cattle.  He told that, he was sick, so he is not able to get up early in the morning.  Accordingly, Shantakumar had come to Chandrashekar's house quite early on Monday morning.

But when he arrived, he found that front door was open.  He went in, but did not find anyone in the house.  He immediately informed the neighbours about this, who came rushed to the house and started searching for the family members.  At first they found Chandrashekar's shawl floating in the pond.  So when they searched in the water, they found all the four bodies.

Chandrashekhar had married Vanajakshi 6 years ago.  The couple had two children.  The sources also said that he was suffering from asthma.  So far nothing is known about the suicide.  Reasons for suicide too are not yet known.  While some are of the opinion that Chandrashekar had a huge amount of loan, some others said that his weak health might have prompted him to take this extreme step.

The police have registered a case in this regard.
