Afghan rapes woman from Darjeeling in Delhi, held


New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS): A 22-year-old woman from Darjeeling was raped by an Afghan national here, police said Tuesday.

The police received a call from the woman around 3.15 a.m. Tuesday from Hauz Rani area in south Delhi, where the 23-year-old accused lives.

Police said the woman was accompanied by a female friend, and both were in an inebriated state.

Both were taken to the Malviya Nagar police station in south Delhi.

Police added that on the basis of their allegation, they have registered a rape case and taken the accused into police custody.

The accused Afghan youth, who works as a waiter at a restaurant in Hauz Rani, was known to the girls.

Police said that the accused came to Delhi almost a year ago and continued to stay here even after his visa expired.

Police added that the women have refused to undergo medical examination and have repeatedly changed their statements made to the police.

Police also said that the victim fell from a staircase at the accused's house and has an injured lip, but added that they are yet to ascertain whether she was pushed down the staircase or slipped.

Both women work at a beauty parlour.
