Mobile services suspended in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 15 (IANS): Mobile services in Srinagar were suspended Friday ahead of the main Independence Day function due to security reasons.

Hours before Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was scheduled to hoist the national flag and participate in the 68th Independence Day celebrations in Srinagar, mobile services by all companies have been suspended.

Although officials refused to confirm the suspension, sources in the service providing companies told IANS they were directed to suspend operations till further orders.

Authorities have been suspending mobile operations in Kashmir for the past many years to prevent remote control triggering of explosive devices by guerrillas using cell phone signals.
