One killed, two injured in terrorist attack in Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 15 (IANS): At least one terrorist was killed and two people injured in a terrorist attack at an airbase in the Pakistan's Balochistan province Thursday.

The incident took place when a group of terrorists tried to sneak into the Pakistan Air Force's Smungli Airbase in southwest Pakistan but security personnel foiled the attempt, Xinhua reported citing local media.

The terrorists opened fire at security personnel and hurled seven to eight hand grenades at them.

In retaliation, security personnel killed one of the terrorists.

The attack comes close on heels of brazen Taliban terror attack on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport June 8.

The incident led to Pakistan launching military operation named Zarb-i-Azb June 15 in North Waziristan tribal region that has killed over 700 militants so far.

All the roads leading to the airbase have been closed.

Army helicopters have been hovering over the area as the security personnel are still exchanging fire with the attackers.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
