Two engineering students drown in Ghaziabad pool


Ghaziabad, Aug 13 (IANS): Two students of an engineering institute in Ghaziabad drowned in a swimming pool while partying late at night, police said Wednesday.

Prateek Singhal and Utkarsh Arya, both 22-year-old students of B.Tech final year at Ajay Kumar Garg Institute of Engineering and Technology, drowned in a swimming pool Tuesday night.

Singhal is from Mathura and Arya from Allahabad.

They along with about a dozen fellow students went to the Ghaziabad Development Authority-owned Chandra Nagar Recreational Club for a party. The club is run by a private operator

During the late night party, Arya slipped into the water. When Singhal tried to rescue him, he also fell.

Police said there were no life belts or trainers available at the spot.

The other students rushed both of them to a hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Officials said the post-mortem examination would be conducted by Delhi Police and the bodies would be handed over to the family members.

A case has been registered against the club operator.
