Manik Sarkar calls on Narendra Modi


New Delhi/Agartala, Aug 8 (IANS): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

"It was a courtesy call," an official of the Chief Minister's secretariat told IANS in Agartala.

Sarkar, also a politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), skipped the swearing-in ceremony of Modi as prime minister in New Delhi May 26.

Tripura's Health and Family Welfare, Revenue and Public Works Minister Badal Chowdhury, also a CPI-M central committee member, represented the Left Front government at the swearing-in ceremony.

Sarkar had said he will meet Modi after some time to raise the issues concerning Tripura.

Sarkar is in New Delhi to attend the three-day CPI-M central committee meet that began Friday.
