Himachal gets heavy rainfall


Shimla, Aug 8 (IANS): The hills of Himachal Pradesh received moderate to heavy rainfall Friday with some parts recording more than 200 mm of rainfall. More rain was in the offing, the Met Office said.

Dehra Gopipur in Kangra district recorded the highest rainfall at 218 mm.

"Precipitation occurred at most places with heavy rainfall in Chamba, Kangra and Mandi districts since Thursday," said an official of the Meteorological Department.

He said similar weather conditions are likely to continue in the state till Saturday.

Dharamsala town got 165 mm rainfall, while Dalhousie in Chamba district received 96 mm and Jogindernagar in Mandi district 81 mm.

State capital Shimla, which recorded a minimum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, got just 2.8 mm rain. Picturesque tourist resort Manali got 17.4 mm rain.

A government spokesperson said the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and their tributaries are in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts.
