President receives Munger book's first copy

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee Thursday received the first copy of a book "Munger Through The Ages" at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan, an official statement said.

Written by late D.P. Yadav, the book was presented to the president by Karan Singh, chairman of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) who formally released it.

Describing the author as a "worthy son of our motherland", the president said he had a long association with Yadav who was first elected to parliament in 1971 and entrusted with the charge of deputy minister in the education ministry by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

"He was an active parliamentarian and played a key role in the development of the Panchayati Raj Act and preparation of the report of the Mandal Commission," said Mukherjee.

Talking about the book, Mukherjee said: "In the publication, Yadav has not only enumerated the rich history and heritage of Munger district, but also described its geographical and demographic features, its administration in the early days of independent India and many aspects of its modern day challenges."
