Mamata despairs over FDI in railways

Kolkata, Aug 7 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday voiced concern about India's "fate" after the government approved 100 percent FDI in railway infrastructure and 49 percent in defence.

"Where successive governments have been consciously avoiding FDI in railways for strategic and security reasons, the central government has, for the first time, now allowed up to 100 percent FDI. I do not know what will be the fate and future of this country," Banerjee said.

Banerjee said on her official Facebook page that the twin decisions -- including hiking the defence FDI from 26 to 49 percent -- will put a big question mark on the safety and security of the country.
