Body of British trekker killed found


Shimla, Aug 7 (IANS): The body of a British national who died accidentally while trekking in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti district has been recovered, an official said Thursday.

The body of Roger Francis was found at Sarchu, 90 km from Keylong on the Manali-Leh highway, Deputy Commissioner H.R. Chauhan told IANS over telephone. Keylong is 375 km from here.

The British embassy in New Delhi has been informed, Chauhan added.

Official sources said Francis, 67, was trekking along with a porter when he met with an accident Aug 1. 

The porter left him and trekked back to inform the authorities about the accident. The rescue team reached the spot Aug 6.

Backpackers, especially from the US, Britain, Italy, France and Germany, descend in Lahaul-Spiti from August to October every year, mostly to trek.
