No reservation for Chief Information Commissioners


New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS): Reservation is not applicable in the appointment of Chief Information Commissioners, the government said Wednesday.

The commissioners are meant to be "persons of eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and technology, social service, management, journalism, mass media or administration and governance", Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha.

He said that Chief Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission have been retired officers.

The minister said the total number of RTI applications pending pertaining to the office of the Commission as on July 30 this year was 174.

Another 27,335 appeals and complaints were also pending, he added.
