Delhi Metro's airport line's ridership up


New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS): The average monthly ridership of Delhi Metro's Airport Express line has increased by 30.40 percent since July 2013, Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu said Wednesday.

The minister, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, said the functioning of the line has "significantly improved" since the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation took it over in July 2013.

"The average monthly ridership of the airport metro line has increased by 30.40 percent since July 2013 when Delhi Metro Rail Corporation took over the line," he said.

"The operating loss has reduced from Rs.345.25 lakh in July 2013 to a monthly average of Rs.82.09 lakh during April-June 2014," he added.

He also informed parliament that the fares on the line have been reduced by about 40 percent for various trips with effect from July 24.
