Israel to resume Gaza offensive as truce crumbles

London, Aug 1 (IANS): The Israeli military Friday told people in Gaza that it is resuming its ongoing offensive, saying Hamas broke a planned three-day ceasefire just hours after it began.

The army said that it has warned residents to stay indoors, BBC reported.

Palestinian sources said at least eight people were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza after the ceasefire was declared.

Israel said the attack was in response to a rocket fire from Hamas.

According to Palestinian health officials, at least 1,460 Palestinians have died, mostly civilians, since the Israeli offensive began July 8.

In Israel, 61 soldiers and three civilians have been killed.
