DU student alleges ragging in college

New Delhi, July 23 (IANS): A Delhi University student Wednesday alleged that he was ragged and beaten up by seniors in his college campus. A police case has been registered against 20 senior students.

Puneet Kumar, a first year B.A. programme student of Satyawati College (Evening), claimed he was beaten by 20-22 seniors in the college campus Tuesday evening.

"I was leaving after the orientation programme around 3.30 p.m., when a group of 20-22 seniors took me to a classroom. They first slapped me and then hit me with sticks on my head," Kumar told IANS.

"I was bleeding and I somehow managed to go to a hospital," he said.

Police said they have registered a case and were probing the matter. However, a case has not been registered for ragging.

Despite several attempts, college authorities were not available for comment.

The university's media coordinator Malay Neerav told IANS that DU was yet to recieve any communication from the college about the incident.

On July 18, Delhi University asked all colleges under it to strictly enforce rules and regulations to prevent ragging and set up anti-ragging disciplinary committees.
