Nonagenarian undergoes hip replacement surgery


New Delhi, July 8 (IANS): A 94-year-old man has successfully undergone a hip replacement surgery at a hospital here in the capital, a doctor said Tuesday.

Nasiruddin sufferd a fall during his morning walk June 22 and was injured in his right hip. He was operated upon at the Apollo Hospital here June 24.

Rajeev Sharma, orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeon who performed the surgery, said the patient underwent total hip replacement in which the hip joint is replaced by a prosthetic implant.

"When he came, he was unable to walk. It was a case of fracture in the neck of femur along with osteoporosis. We performed unilateral total hip replacement," he said.

The cost of treatment was Rs.3 lakh.
