Palekar passed away Wednesday morning.

The GUJ described Palekar as pioneer in the trade union movement in Goa, who worked for the labour class through trade union like All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

"Late Palekar's also vehemently contributed to Goa's freedom struggle and suffered jail during the liberation movement," stated GUJ General secretary Rupesh Samant in a press note issued here.

Late Palekar struggled throughout his life to uplift the downtrodden community and had time and again guided GUJ in its activities. "For GUJ, demise of Palekar is a loss which is irreparable," states a press note.
