Sheikh Hasina condoles Munde's death

New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday wrote to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi condoling the sudden demise of union minister Gopinath Munde. Bangladesh has "lost a good friend", she said.

"You have lost a distinguished political leader and we have lost a good friend of Bangladesh," Hasina said in a message.

Hasina said she was "deeply saddened and shocked to learn about the sudden and most unfortunate passing away of Munde" and extended condolences "to the government and the people of India and to the members of the bereaved family".

The Bangladesh prime minister said "given Munde's illustrious political career both at the centre and the state of Maharashtra, his untimely demise is a huge loss for your government, the country, the people, and the party".

"All would be deprived of the service that he was just about to deliver in his new capacity."

"We pray for the salvation and eternal peace of the departed soul," she said.
