'Driver involved in Munde accident not on hotel duty'


New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): The Imperial Hotel Tuesday clarified that it had "no concern" with the vehicle and the driver involved in the car accident that led to Union Minister Gopinath Munde's death Tuesday morning.

The driver, 32-year-old Gurvinder Singh, is a resident of Mehrauli area in south Delhi. According to reports, he was working as a driver with the hotel.

However, the hotel issued a clarification that he was not on hotel duty.

"To put the record straight, Hotel Imperial has no concern with vehicle Indica car bearing registration number DL7C E 4549 and its driver Gurvinder Singh," the Imperial Hotel said in a statement.

The statement added the hotel has an agreement with M/s. Silver Service for provision of transportation services for hotel guests and Gurvinder Singh is an employee of the same service.

"It is further clarified the car and driver involved in the accident were not on duty of Hotel Imperial in any manner whatsoever," the statement added.

Singh was driving the Tata Indica car which rammed into senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Munde's Maruti Suzuki SX4 DL 8C BF0034 on the rear side where he was sitting.
