Three new polio cases reported in Pakistan

Islamabad, May 19 (IANS): Three new polio cases were detected Monday in Pakistan, media reported.

The three victims belonged to North and South Waziristan area of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Dawn online reported citing the prime minister's polio cell's statement.

At least 66 cases have been reported in Pakistan this year, the statement added.

Pakistan will put into effect from June the World Health Organisation's (WHO) recommendation that would require all travellers from the country to carry a polio vaccination certificate.

Anyone leaving Pakistan from June 1 should carry the vaccination certificate.

The vaccination certificate would also be applicable to the foreign nationals who spend more than a month in Pakistan.

Pakistan is one of the three countries where polio is still endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, and tops the rankings of the cases registered in the world so far.
