Army jawan killed, two injured in firing by Pakistani troops

Jammu, May 19 (Agencies): An Army jawan was killed and two others injured on Sunday in the first major incident of firing by Pakistani troops at the Line of Control (LoC) after the Narendra Modi-led BJP's big win in the general elections.

The incident happened on Sunday morning when a team of Indian jawans had gone to the forward area of Jogwan in Pallanwalla sector to rescue a colleague - an Army jawan of 4 Engineers who had been injured when he stepped over a landmine when a team of soldiers was examining border fencing in the forward area.

When a team of the Army jawans went to the forward area to rescue their injured colleague and shift him to hospital, Pakistan Army personnel opened fire on them causing injuries to three more jawans. One of them, from the 2 Maratha Light Infantry unit, later succumbed to his injuries.

The patrol party was targeted by terrorists in Akhnoor area at 11 a.m. Sunday, Defence spokesman Col. Manish Mehta told IANS, adding Sepoy Bhikale was killed in this attack.

A high alert has been sounded in the area.

The army also foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Bhimber Ghali area of the Poonch district Sunday when a group of guerrillas were prevented from sneaking into the Indian side.

An improvised explosive device (IED) left behind by the guerrillas was later destroyed.

Heightened tensions on the border between India and Pakistan have thrown the lives of thousands of civilians living close to the border out of gear.

A modicum of normalcy had returned after the signing of a bilateral ceasefire agreement in November 2003.

The agreement held well for some years, but last year frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops both on the LoC and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir again heightened tensions between the two neighbours.

In 2014, the Pakistani Army has violated the ceasefire agreement seven times so far.

Pakistan has nothing to lose. They are already a bankrupt nation. India's GDP is 50 times more bigger than Pakistan, and can easily win a war with pakistan and recover from the losses (human and financial).

Modi should walk the talk now...all the talking was more than enough during election time, and many voted for him based on his "speeches". Now modi should call a spade a spade, and publicly tell Indian troops to kill 10 pakistanis for every 1 Indian soldier killed. Manmohan singh did not have the guts to do so, and if modi is what he is projected to be, then he should do the above. Why is he not saying this, or does he need RSS and Baba Ramdev support for this also, in spite of winning absolute majority in parliament? Pakistanis already think we are a bunch of cowards, and that is why they keep instigating us all the time!

India actually needs a leader like Putin of Russia. In the present scenario, both Russia and Ukraine have nuclear powered missiles a.k.a WMD. But do u think Ukraine has the b**ls to instigate Russia? Putin will have Ukraine as a breakfast any day. Same way it should be between India and Pakis. Pakis should not even dare to dream to instigate India! That is how it should be.

Most of the guys here are talking like Modi became PM only to wage war against Pak. But if you watch his recent interview with ArGO, he had made his stand clear, he wanted peace not war. And dont worry Pak and India cannot afford to go on full fledged war against each other. India will surely survive the war, but with great personnel and financial loss. But a poor country like Pakistan will just go bankrupt after the war. However Modi will send a strong message to Pak once he is PM. he is not someone who can be easily intimidated or messed with.

I guess being in the hot seat and taking on your enemy is a lot different from fighting battles on Facebook and news portals huh?

Alright then.....Keeping aside our political rivalries, I believe the new govt should give it back to pakis "Tit for Tat" lest India will be treated as a weakling.

Hello guys, in between some humour here, ok.

Right now, let us think about the exchange rate of rupees vs other international currencies including Riyals, Dirhams as the rupee is staging a smart appreciation day in and day out.

Prediction is that Modi Govt would arrest the rupee fall and bring it to Rs. 40-45 range for a dollar by 12/2014. Though it is good for our country's economy, but people like us NRIs, our income is going to be a drastic cut.

    Anybody has a solution?

But Is pakistan the saviour of Muslims all over the world? Can they do so? Have they not killed thousands of muslims in kashmir and elsewhere? Jossey, 60 years of misgovernance cant be set right within 60 days..Pak has been given free hand all these years, eventhough they bleed our nose every time..Pak tried to internationalise even Gujrat riots but our Govt mute spectator for inhuman treatment/killing of Hindu,Christian,Sikhs in pak..we welcome Pak artist in the name of freindship but we are not pressuring them to become peace ambassador or influence their Govt to stop mischievous in India.a tight slap to Pak at right time will make them straight..acche din zaroor aayenge..

our MPs are mature enough to show solidarity when there is an external attack on us. But do we need to bring manmohan & Modi in to discussions on a serious issue like foreign attack?

incidence occurred for which Pak and lathery of earlier govt are reasons. Modi has not yet taken oath/finalized cabinet. But, Modi critics (who disappeared for a while) are up on swing to bash Modi. Your job is only that.

    After giving big, big Lectures:
We will see samjotha expresses from Gujarat to Karachi and from Arunachal Pradesh to Shanghai.

One soldier died on the Border.
I will not raise my voice because one soldier is only died on the border.

I will raise my voice only more than 15 soldiers die on our border.

ACCHHE DHIN AANE WAALE HAIM OUR ARMY WAS SLEEPING NOW WAKE UP AND PACK-UP TO FIRE.

India Regan may end up to be Bush starting war and end up all the development in to war spending. That is the fear on many peoples mind because of Pakistan's anti Modi stance.

Barking dogs seldom bite. Dont worry, there wont be any war. All this 56 inch chest thumping is only during elections and when you are in the opposition. When it is your turn to govern 56 inch chest becomes mouse chest.
War can happen only if 56 inch chest senses his popularity is ping so to revive it war can be considered.
