Over 3,000 Chinese return home from Vietnam

Beijing, May 18 (IANS): Over 3,000 Chinese nationals returned home Sunday following anti-China riots in Vietnam over the past week, a Chinese embassy official said in Hanoi.

Qi Xiaofeng, spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in Hanoi, told Xinhua that at least 135 wounded Chinese workers were repatriated in two China Southern Airlines flights.

The foreign ministry earlier said 3,000 Chinese nationals had been evacuated from Vietnam Saturday.

At least two Chinese were killed and more than 100 were injured in the violence last week.

The transport ministry said China is also sending five ships to Vietnam to evacuate its nationals.

The violence in Vietnam erupted after China made renewed territorial claims over the Paracel Islands, which Vietnam insists are part of the country.
