Powerful quake hits Indonesia


Jakarta, May 18 (IANS): An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted the northern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra island Sunday, an official said.

The quake struck at 8.07 a.m. with an epicentre at 342 km southwest of Aceh Jaya district and at the depth of 15 km under sea bed, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency told Xinhua. 

The agency said the quake had no potential of triggering a tsunami.
