Three brothers held in Odisha for killing sister, boyfriend

Bhubaneswar, May 15 (IANS): Three brothers were arrested in Odisha's Ganjam district Thursday for allegedly murdering their sister and her boy friend for "honour killing", police said.

Nirajnan Nayak, a native of Haladiapadar village near Berhampur town, about 200 km from Bhubaneswar, and his two brothers Kalu and Budha, were arrested for murdering their sister Mami and her boy friend Amar Nayak May 11.

According to Inspector P.K. Das, the in charge of the local Golanthara police station, the crime had taken place hours before the marriage of 20-year old Mami to another man chosen by her family against her wishes.

She allegedly eloped with her boyfriend when her family had organised a feast on that night. Her brothers found her in the house of Amar later during a search. In sudden outburst of anger, they hacked both Mami and Amar to death.

Police had seized the weapons allegedly used including an axe and a sword from the spot of the crime, said Das.
