Goa, Jun 16: Zuari bridge (the main link between north and south Goa joining Agassaim and Cortalim) is closed for all heavy vehicles. As a result of the cracks which are developed in the Zuari bridge, the Goa government has decided to close the bridge for all types of heavy vehicles.

As a alternative step the government had promised that the parallel ferry service (Agassaim-Cortalim) will be started from Friday June 16. But to the surprise of everyone, the state river navigation department has not acted in this regard till this hour. The Agassaim and Cortalim ferry points are not being cleaned as yet. The said points are covered with waste brought from the river.

As compared to the Agasaaim ferry point (which was inactive for years) the Cortalim ferry point is at least clean and used due to the ferry service plying between Cortalim and Madkai.

However, the people are still expecting that the ferry service will be started very soon. The concerned department is not saying anything and keeping quiet. There was temporary ‘rasta roko’ by the locals on both the sides of the Zuari bridge which was soon stopped.
