Three cylinder bombs defused after school blast in Bihar

Patna, April 11 (IANS): After giving sleepless night to villagers, three cylinder bombs recovered from a school in Bihar's Lakhisarai district were defused Friday, more than 24 hours after they were found, police said.

"Much to the relief of the villagers, three cylinder bombs were defused Friday after they spent sleepless night Thursday," a district police official said.

Maoists used eight cylinder bombs to blast the school building ahead of voting in six parliamentary constituencies of the state Thursday.

The presence of the live bombs in the village's school was a big threat. "If these bombs had exploded, they could have created more damage," police said.

A police official said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were camping at the school for past few days ahead of polls in the neighbouring Jamui constituency.

"When Maoists attacked and blasted school building, the CRPF personnel were out on duty," the police official said.
