Panaji, Jun 12: Some unknown persons deposited 19 counterfeit notes of Rs 100 denomination and five notes of Rs 500 denomination in different banks of the state, as genuine Indian currency notes.

The banks are Syndicate Bank of India, Ponda and Margao branch and in Bank of Maharashtra, Margao branch

The police informed that these notes were detected as counterfeit notes by the Reserve Bank of India, Belapur-Navi, Mumbai.

In this regard, the manager of the RBI, Belapur-Navi Mumbai, S B Dhende, lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Cell of the Criminal Investigating Department (CID) of Goa police. Further investigation is in progress.
