Voter's paper trail facility in Chennai Central

Chennai, March 31 (IANS): The Election Commission Monday announced it has decided to test the Voter's Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) System in the Chennai Central constituency in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

A statement issued by the state's chief electoral officer said voters will be provided the VVPAT system in all the 1,153 polling stations in the constituency -- the only one in the state to have this facility.

"Under this facility, the voter would be able to see a printout of the symbol of the candidate he has voted for. The symbol would be printed by the machine and this would be visible through a glass window. The printout of the image would be retained in the machine," the statement said.
