Trooper injured in Poonch landmine blast

Jammu, Feb 28 (IANS): An Indian trooper was injured Friday in a landmine explosion in Krishna Ghati sector near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region, official sources here said.

"The trooper sustained superficial injuries as he was wearing mine protection shoes," defence sources said.

Landmines have been used in Jammu and Kashmir by separatist guerrillas against the security forces during the last 24 years.

The army also plants landmines in areas where infiltration attempts are likely to be made by the militants.

It was not immediately known whether the landmine injury caused to the trooper had been accidental or it was planted by separatist guerrillas.
