India-born cleric shot dead in Pakistan


Islamabad, Feb 28 (IANS): An India-born religious scholar was shot dead by four unidentified assailants in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

Police said four unidentified armed men riding motorbikes opened fire at the rickshaw in which Allama Taqi Hadi Naqvi was riding in North Nazimabad area of the city Thursday. He later succumbed to his injuries, the Dawn reported.

Hadi, a renowned scholar within religious circles, was born in Moradabad in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and moved to Pakistan along with his family after Partition.

Police have launched an investigation into the case.
