Chinese defence minister meets Sharif


Islamabad, Feb 28 (IANS): Chinese Defence Minister Chang Wanquan Friday met Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Asif Sandila here to discuss military cooperation between the two countries.

The prime minister expressed his continuation of support for the One China policy and said friendship with China was a significant element of Pakistan's foreign policy, reported Dawn online.

Chang assured Sharif of continuation of China's cooperation with Pakistan in the field of military and defence.

Earlier, the Chinese defence minister met Admiral Sandila and agreed on enhancing defence cooperation.

Both the sides also discussed naval programmes underway.

Sandila said the Pakistan navy would seek China's cooperation to increase its defence capacity.

On Thursday, the Chinese defence minister met Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. The Chinese minister also visited the army headquarters and met Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif.
