Taliban commander killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Feb 24 (IANS): A Taliban commander was killed and four other militants were injured in Afghanistan's Jauzjan province, police said Monday.

"Acting on a tip-off, police raided the hideout of Taliban in Kushtapa district late Sunday night, killing Taliban commander Shir Agha alias Mullah Jawed and injured four others," Abdul Aziz Ghairat, provincial police chief, told Xinhua.

He said Shir Agha was leading 30 Taliban militants and his death was a major setback to the armed outfit in the province and adjoining areas.

The Taliban militants killed 20 Afghan soldiers in Kunar province Sunday.
