Two killed in Delhi building collapse

New Delhi, Feb 17 (IANS): Two women died and two other people were injured when a portion of a three-storey building, owned by the in-laws of cricketer Virendra Sehwag, collapsed here Monday, police said.

The second and third floors of the building, located in the Sadar Bazar area of central Delhi collapsed around noon.

The two women identified as Pushpa, 60, and Rani, 45, died when they were buried under the debris. Two others - Geeta, 50 and Ramu, 28 - received minor injuries.

Police said all worked in a small cloth manufacturing unit on the second floor.

The house is owned by Swaraj Ahlawat, an advocate and father-in-law of Sehwag.

The rescue operation continued for three hours, a Delhi Fire Service officer said.

Police said a case of negligence causing death against unknown persons was registered. The portion of the building might have collapsed due to its dilapidated condition.
