Militant killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar, Feb 16 (IANS): One separatist guerrilla was killed Sunday in a gunfight between security forces and militants in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, an official said.

A senior police official said security forces surrounded a house in Seelu village near Sopore town, about 55 km from here, early Sunday following information about holed up guerrillas.

"When the militants were challenged to surrender, they fired at the security forces triggering an encounter. One militant has been killed so far.

"Although firing has stopped, searches are still going on there," the official said.
