Kolkata marks World Cancer Day


Kolkata, Feb 4 (IANS): World Cancer Day was marked here Tuesday with a series of cancer awareness programmes.

Leading city hospitals organised workshops to disseminate facts about the disease and debunk general myths.

Apollo Gleneagles hospital chose a theme "Know More to Say No More to Cancer" for one such event. Oncologist Chanchal Goswami Monday sought to dispel myths associated with cancer that pose a hindrance to its treatment.

The Indian Medical Association also took out an awareness march during the day.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 7.6 million deaths. India has nearly three million cancer patients.
