Nairobi, Jan 2 (IANS): Kenya Airways says it will resume its commercial flights to South Sudan's capital city of Juba Thursday.

The carrier had suspended all flights to and from Juba in South Sudan between Dec 24 and Dec 31 following clashes between the two warring factions in South Sudan government, Xinhua reported Thursday.

"Kenya Airways wishes to inform its customers and the general public that it will resume flights to Juba on Jan. 2," the airline said in a statement issued in Nairobi on Wednesday.

As part of the guidelines, Kenya Airways said: "One free change shall be allowed for passengers already holding unutilized tickets while re-booking will be done on same class as originally booked," he said

"For fully unutilized tickets full refund shall be allowed for passengers who were booked to travel on or before Dec 31, 2013," it said.

Fighting broke out in South Sudan following a clash between youth allied to former vice president Riek Machar and government forces lead by President Salva Kiir.

The conflict has seen at least 1,000 killed, and more than 190,000 flee their homes since deadly clashes between conflicting parties within the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM and SPLA) broke out in Juba Dec 15, 2013, a UN refugee agency said.

According to the UNHCR, more than 180,000 South Sudanese have fled their homes and some 10,000 have crossed into neighbouring countries.
