IIT-Delhi seeks contributions from its alumni

New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS): The Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-Delhi) Sunday called upon its alumni to help fund world-class faculty development and finance its research students for international exposure, a statement said.

The premier institution has proposed to set up an endowment pool for the purpose and sought contributions from its alumni, it was announced at the first-ever alumni day here.

"We want the alumni in the industry to engage in developing a 21st century modern curriculum, in sync with the dynamically changing professional landscape. It could spell a new trend in high-end professional education in the country," said IIT-Delhi director R.K. Shevgaonkar.

"We require repositioning of our institute to make it world class and for that, the alumni is critical," he added.

Shevgaonkar said the institute was committed to work on three critical areas, including faculty, infrastructure development and funding to catapult the institute into a new league.

The institute is also setting up a centre for cyber security in Delhi and a science and technology park at its Sonipat campus, he informed.

"Everything is online and control is remote. It was felt that IIT-Delhi was the most suitable to have a capacity building for cyber security in the country. The centre which shall start in the next session shall also undertake cutting-edge research in this field."
