Suspected Maoists abduct seven people in Jharkhand


Ranchi, Dec 23 (IANS): Seven people working in a private construction company were abducted by suspected Maoist guerrillas in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, police said Monday.

According to police, around 10 to 15 people carrying weapons raided the company camp site near Badania village of the district, around 350 km from the state capital Ranchi and abducted the workers late Sunday night.

The guerrillas abducted three night guards, one driver and three helpers and headed towards Bihar.

The company is involved in construction of a bridge in the district. Police have launched an operation to nab the abductors.

Maoists are active in 18 of the 22 districts in the state.
