Mumbai, Dec 9: Ruthlessly rubbished by the critics, R...Rajkumar did not seem to have anyone backing it up except for its own team lead by director Prabhu Dheva, Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. The movie's opening shows on Friday were razed by the audiences it managed to draw in Delhi, UP and Punjab with theatres barely filling to even half their capacity while Gujarat, Mumbai and Rajasthan still managed to muster a decent crowd.

Shahid Kapoor had previously stated, while talking to the press that his movie R...Rajkumar would break his previous records and as if to prove the actor right, the movie  managed a collection of Rs.8 crore as opposed to his previous highest opening day collection of Mausam which brought in Rs. 7 crore. While the same figures got replicated on Saturday, it seemed to pick up on Sunday, all thanks to single screen theatres. The total collection for the weekend added up to Rs 27 crore.

After a prolonged dry spell actor Shahid Kapoor seems to finally have gotten a break with R...Rajkumar. For all those who claimed the end of the era of exaggerated masala movie genre, R...Rajkumar seems to have set the record straight that, there are audiences who are ready to queue up at the ticket windows for such movies.

The credit for the drawing audiences in droves seems to be going to the songs like 'Gandi Baat' and 'Sari ke fall se' which found their place in the hearts and minds of the people long before the movie's release. The promotions taken on by the team also seem to have managed to work its magic, in conjunction with the fact that it was directed by Prabhu Dheva who himself draws quite a fan following.
