Mangalore, Apr 19: At last the accused in the Anna Monis murder case of Bajpe have been convicted by the district session court.

Anna Monis, a resident of Adkabare near Bajpe here had been murdered on June 26, 2003 by Sunil Fernandes (22) of Kolambe Mura and Roshan Noel D'Souza (23).  Since Roshan Noel had died while being in the custody a few months ago, Sunil has been convicted.  However, the court has not yet revealed the nature of punishment.

Sunil Fernandes and Roshan who had come to Anna's house on that day had strangled her to death in the kitchen.  The motive behind the sensational murder was to steal her ornaments.  Anna's husband who was working abroad was to come home on the same day.  Her two children had gone to school. After killing Anna Monis, the accused had filled her body in a sack and thrown it into a nearby empty well.

The children who came home in the afternoon were shocked after not seeing mother anywhere. As they were searching for her along with the help of the neighbours, her husband had reached home from abroad.  The neighbours who knew her well were of the opinion that there was no obvious reason behind her going missing.

So as they were searching for her, they found her murdered and thrown in the well.  The Bajpe police had registered the case and the then Panambur circle inspector Subhaschandra had undertaken investigation in the case.  After collecting information about the persons who visited her house on that ill-fated day, he was able to nab the accused from a hotel at Sheshadripuram in Bangalore.  One of the accused, Roshan had also tried to kill himself with the help of a bottle during the arrest.

After completing the investigation inspector Subhaschandra had filed a charge sheet in this regard.  Now that the trial is over and accused have been convicted in the case, all are waiting for court's verdict with regard to the nature of punishment.
