Mangalore, Apr 18: The Mangalore Regional Transport Office (RTO) has turned rich by over Rs 40 crore during 05-06.

Although it missed the set target by 1 per cent, the Mangalore RTO has earned revenue of Rs 45.29 crore during the fiscal year 05-06.

During the year, the transport officials inspected 21,015 vehicles and have booked cases against 3,825 vehicle-owners and seized 155 vehicles.

Through its law enforcement drives, the department has earned 1.14 crore. It has also collected Rs 79.06 lac for charges of overloading.

Further Green Tax was collected from vehicle owners of transport vehicles more than seven years old and those of two and four-wheelers, which were more than 15 years old at the time of renewal of registration.
