Bantwal, Apr 17: Theft worth more than Rs 50,000 was reported from a house at Kodangalu near Vittal here on Sunday April 16 night.

Doomanna Safalya (60) and his family members had locked their house and had gone for the religious function on Sunday night.  Taking advantage of this, the thieves broke open into the house and decamped with Rs 50,000 in cash and gold ornaments, value of which is yet to be established.

The theft came to light on Sunday night when Doomanna Safalya and his family members came home around 11 pm.  They found the front door opened and the house being ransacked.  Clothes and other things from the cupboard were thrown on the floor indicating the theft.  The thieves had managed to decamp with Rs 50,000 and gold ornaments which were in the cupboard.

The shocked family immediately informed the neighbours about the theft.  But their efforts to catch the thieves were met with failure as the thieves had managed to escape by then.

A case has now been filed in the Vittal police station in this regard.
