Udupi, Apr 17: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Awards of Honour 2005 were presented at a glittering ceremony held at Mother of Sorrows Church ground here on Sunday April 16 evening.

Tonse Vaman Pai, Edwin Netto (Edy Netto) and M S Kamath were presented the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Awards - 2005 for their service in the field of folklore, literature and music respectively.



The awardees

State minister of medical education and animal husbandry Dr V S Acharya presided over the function.  In his address he extended his full support and cooperation for the growth of Konkani and introducing of Konkani as optional subjects in the schools.

The Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Prof Chandrashekhar Patil who was one of the chief guests of the programme said that he desired for the continuation of firm bond between both Kannada and Konkani languages at various levels.

Fr Mathew Vaz, parish priest, Mother of Sorrows Church and MLA K Raghupati Bhat were also the chief guests on the occasion.

Academy registrar Dr Duggappa Kajekar welcomed the gathering while academy member Victor Mathias (Vitori Karkala) proposed the vote of thanks.  Sarita Alva introduced the awardees and academy member Vincent Alva compered the programme.

The programme came to an end with the Konkani music nite by Lloyd Rego and troupe.
